Omega Setup?

Postby ViperSpecialty on Tue Jun 15, 2010 12:49 am

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my Omega setup when attached to an SQ6M12.

I have the dash set to: SQ6 Defined, Sensors: PECTEL, and Advanced Mode: ON

-When I change settings in CalTool, only SOME of the items show on the dash. I am able to utilize displays 1-4, but not 5-7.

-The dash will not allow me to adjust brightness modes, unless done directly in CalTool while fiddling with settings. I would like the display to switch automatically from Day to Night at a certain time, but the "sunrise/sunset" feature seems to have no rhyme or reason when it changes over... maybe an internal clock setting issue?

-I cannot seem to access any other pages other than Page 1.

In my attempt to dig for the issue, I have tried setting the dash to Sensors: DIRECT, as well as turning advanced mode off, turning off CAN Out and Serial Out, as well as fiddle with any setting I could find in CalTool.

Lastly, as a test, I set all 7 features to an input, different for each page (so I could keep track of fields available and which pages I could access) Strangely, I still can only see 1-4 on page 1... however, if I push and hold certain buttons for an extended period of time, the dash appears to have a "seizure" flashing from red to blue rapidly, and listing random errors. However, while it is in the process of doing this- my other 3 fields and pages become available?!?!?!

For reference, my M12 is running 2.53.0.1, and the Omega is running 3.84

Any help?

I do not know what advanced mode does; I would turn that off.

The Omega dash works excellent in 2.53, with multiple page, day/night and 7 field support all working. We need to know more about your settings.

This can be effected by dash type, moving speed threshold, message center field number and page setup. Tell us what those look like; you can upload screen shots if you'd like.

Have you used ECU Offload tool to set the clock in the ECU yet?

-I cannot seem to access any other pages other than Page 1.

What is the availability setup to in page setup?

I'm confident that by working through these settings we will get your dash working well.

Got this working with Alex this afternoon.

The display had a bunch of ECU error alarms in the background due to other parts of the system not being configured yet. Since the ECU errors were the same in "notification urgency", it did not know which to display, so it just left the fields 5-7 blank. Also, as pointed out by Alex, when there is an error, the ECU reverts to Page 1.

For now I just turned all of the ECU error alarms until I get that part of the system configured at a later date.

The Display Brightness issue was due to the internal clock being incorrect. We got the ECU offload tool working and set the clock, which I had previously been unable to do with that fantastic {sarcasm} operating system known as Windows 7 getting in the way of the program running correctly. Personally, I was surprised to find out that Caltool doesn't update the internal clock too when flashed, it would seem to make sense to have that clock automatically flashed as often as possible to make sure its always correct.

Race teams fly all over the world. Do you want your ECU on UK time? Pacific? Eastern?

Its a very simple operation to set the ECU time using ECU Offload Tool. This gives you flexibility to have your data and ECU set correctly no matter where you are.

While that is of course true, you will have to update your ECU clock no matter where you travel to in any case. However, your Laptops internal clock is self-updating in many instances, and you need to update this clock anyway for other reasons when you travel if you you are communicating with others. Why not have the option to do this automatically as part of a patch? I never said to get rid of the functionality of being able to select an ECU time, but it would make sense to me to have this as an option, whether it be auto update based on system clock or pre-set for the sake of simplicity.

The side benefit would be that if the car is to be connected to multiple laptops at various points around the globe, it would change to its current "tuners" expectations automatically. While its easy enough to check, I could see how it could be missed quite easily... resulting in either time stamps & associated items being wrong, or at a minimum, not making sense on logs looked at on a later date.

I'm sure there are customers who would prefer it the way it is, especially those who have been using these ECU for years. Most of the competition doesn't even features an internal clock.

If there are enough users who are interested, we can submit a software request.

May I suggest at some point, adding some type of a "poll" to the forum, so that registered users can select which "ideas" brought up on the forum would be worthwhile to submit to Pi? Something that would allow "vote changes" so that new ideas can be added, and people can re-evaluate their selections as new idea/time goes on perhaps...

Time stamps on data are really a bane of many people.

I have seen many times when data has gone to wrong directories because people switching time zones or not paying attention until the second outing or session.

Each person does it differently, but it is smart to have options as well.
