DATALOGGING SQ6

Postby galanos on Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:18 am

Neel Hello,

After a happy start, now I have the following questions:

Where do i activate datalog during a dyno run?

Once datalog is turned on, how many minutes can I datalog?

How can ı save the logged file and then transfer to another laptop for further interpretation?

Easy. Under Software setup/Miscellaneous you can set the RPM at which it starts, speed which it starts (if you have a speed sensor) and max time for each session. Usually we set RPM to 10. If you set speed and max time to zero, it disables these features which is what you want.

Once datalog is turned on, how many minutes can I datalog?

It all depends on how many channels you are logging and at what rates. The time shows at the bottom of "ECU Offload Tool." One great thing about the Pectel is its memory capacity. The base ECU has 1MB of memory. You can upgrade to 3MB for $290. You can upgrade to 2GB for $1895 by adding an external card logger that logs to a standard CF memory card.

How can ı save the logged file and then transfer to another laptop for further interpretation?

Just select the log file in ECU Offload tool and click "save." You can name it anything you want, then email it.

Email the map to you every time or to my own mail box?

I'm not sure I understand your question. All I meant is you can save a file which you can do anything with, including email.

Where do I click to datalog?

In your map, data logging is active as soon as you crank the engine. This can be changed in "software setup" if you prefer to not have it log all the time. You may setup the data logging and manage data using the Pectel ECU Offload Tool which you should have installed with the rest of your software.

today was my first day with datalogging.

SQ6 has a a userfriendly data log software. Looks nice and modern. But a little bit difficult. Need time to get used to it.

Once we `add on` a logged map from our archieve, how can I see RPM vs. MAP or RPM vs.EGT? Meaning that is there a way to see/read the logged data on an excel sheet instead of calling all logged sensors onto a X/Y graph?

Unfortunately, no, you have to look at it in Pi Toolbox.

In toolbox Pro, you can export to an excel CSV file, ascii, matlab...etc. If you choose to go that route.

Unfortunately, as a $5500 option, I usually don't even bother mentioning that.....

Galanos,

Can you elaborate the steps needed to get from logging data to viewing and stepping through logged data? We are relatively new at this but do understand EFI software tools in general.

Basically here are my questions:
1. How and when are logged files created? There was mention that the SQ6 ECU starts logging when the engine cranks and then logs for the time set in "Software Setup", is this correct?

2. Once logging is over and you want to view the data, does it require conversion of some sort? In my search for getting the tools to work there is mention of the Pi Offload tool. This creates an EOT file. There is then mention that Pi toolbox is needed to view it, but that takes in .pwb files (I think), What is the path to get there?

3. If it doesn't require conversion, how is the log pulled out and viewed in step form?

That's all I can think of right now, I will continue to sift through the help sections and try to understand the concepts, but I truly "Don't know what I don't know". The syntax and symantics of the tool is starting to click with me and we are seeing the real power of this so I know that once I get through this and get logging working we are going to love it.

Any insight or help would be great.

Galanos,

Can you elaborate the steps needed to get from logging data to viewing and stepping through logged data? We are relatively new at this but do understand EFI software tools in general.

First off, Galanos has a DB-1 external datalogger that allows for up to 2GB of logging; Josh has the standard 1MB logging package. So things are a bit different. Its actually pretty simple; here's an overview.

There's a program that you install (we either give you a disk or FTP site when you buy an ECU) called "ECU Offload Tool." This program allows you to setup data logging and download data. In ECU Offload tool, you pick what channels you want to log and how fast you want to record them. ECU Offload tool will tell you how much time you can log based on number of channels and rates. Then there's another part of ECU Offload Tool which will show you the logged datasets. These are created every time logging starts and stops. The ECU will hold these sets until the memory is full, then it will get rid of the oldest one to keep logging new data.

Basically here are my questions:
1. How and when are logged files created? There was mention that the SQ6 ECU starts logging when the engine cranks and then logs for the time set in "Software Setup", is this correct?

No. Under Software setup/miscellaneous there are three parameters that control when logging starts:

1. Logging Start Engine Speed.
2. Logging Start Car Speed. (not in some older versions.
3. Logging Max Time Per Session.

When the RPM is above start engine speed and the car speed (if being read) is above start car speed, the logging will begin. If you reach the "max time per session" it will save that session and immediately start a new file. This isn't often used, but is handy if you don't want one big file. So no, the logging doesn't start when the engine cranks unless you have the start engine speed set to below cranking RPM. If you set it to 5000 RPM, you won't get anything until you rev it past 5000.

You should have Pi ECU Offload tool - it was on the FTP site with the other files I setup for Josh. No conversion necessary, just download and open in Pi Toolbox.

3. If it doesn't require conversion, how is the log pulled out and viewed in step form?

Nope. Sounds like you need to download and start playing with ECU Offload tool. We'll guide you though every step.

That's all I can think of right now, I will continue to sift through the help sections and try to understand the concepts, but I truly "Don't know what I don't know". The syntax and symantics of the tool is starting to click with me and we are seeing the real power of this so I know that once I get through this and get logging working we are going to love it.
