Maps and Map sensor calibration

Postby scorpion on Thu Jan 21, 2010 2:06 am

Hi Neel, been a while, hope all is well. I was wondering if you have accumilated some maps for the Turbobusa's. I am put smaller injectors in my bike, 725cc .I also want to put another map sensor on but don't know if the values will change, I am figuring they will. I have a 4bar GM style and a 5bar AEM, I would rather use the AEM if I can configure it. Let me know. Paul Watkins turbobusa@verizon.net

It's easy to scale your map for fuel pressure - what injector were you using? Also, it's no problem to switch the map sensor. The old APEX ECU by EFI Technology has sensor calibrations in "bits.". 0v=0bits, 5v=1024 bits. To convert a sensor curve from volts to bits, you need to mutiply the sensor voltage at a given pressure by 1024 and divide by 5. Make sure you convert the sensor calibration to inHg.

More modern ECUs are calibrated in volts and allow you to pick the calibration units to make this easier, but it's still completely doable with your ECU.

More interesting discoveries. It seems AEM's cal data for the Mopar 3 bar is wrong, it has a greater range then they specify. I just finished a lot more testing with various comparison gauges, pressures,Compost Shredders, and vacuum levels.

Is the data wrong or did they only provide data for the range of the sensor they are using? It possible it goes non linear at some point and they don't want it used up there. The AEM sensor is a VERY standard part in industry; just a .4-4.5 V linear sensor. Many companies make them.
