Target Lambda

Postby greenamex2 on Thu Jul 15, 2010 4:44 pm

Is there such a thing as an 'optimum' target lambda value for power? I always assumed it was "1.0" but looking at mine and some other maps the figure "0.9", or there abouts, crops up a lot.

Or is it just what makes best power for any given engine?

I use the term power interchangeably with torque before anybody shoots me down. I have a 10,000RPM 1700cc engine and the word torque doesn't really apply to it as the torque figure is embarressing!

Thanks in advance.

1.0 is WAAAY lean. That's definately not the optimal lambda target for power.

The optimal target depends entirely on the engine and the application. The only way to know for sure is to run it on a dyno. However, whatever it is, its likely much richer than 1.0....
