We are still waiting for an evaluation unit; I'm not sure what the delay is right now but we will followup with AEM.

I have a wonky upgrade question. Is there any way to use the Solo as the GPS module for the AiM dash? The actual GPS upgrade module performs the same function and even costs the same. I really want the dash, but just can't swing it right now. I would feel better about investing in the Solo if I knew there was a legitimate upgrade path. Thanks!

Yep, the CAN gateway is needed to connect a switchpad to the CAN bus.

Kind Regards,

Neel, if I run this switchpad with a couple of Motec PDMs and, ultimately, the SQ6M, do I need the CAN Gateway?

We purchased an ISIS as soon as they came out, had many conversations with the engineers and subsequently have worked on 2 more installations. The customer we used them for switched to PDMs this year because of its limitations. The ISIS is not a PDM; its a fusebox/relay wiring harness replacement.

Compared to what I expected from the spec sheets, the ISIS is a letdown. It is not nearly as configurable as a PDM. You cannot do most of the CAN functions were were promised. The systems had to go back several times for reprogramming. In the end, its little more than a solid-state version of a traditional relay/fuse box. I really wish that you could program the channels in the way that you can a real PDM. I really wish you could custom-program bi-directional CAN for control and feedback, and I really wish it wasn't so big and bulky.

That said, the ISIS's competitor doesn't seem to be PDMs, but rather traditional wiring harnesses. It seems to be marketed toward custom hot-rod guys. It comes with wiring and a harness that's a lower grade than what we'd typically use. If price is the most important consideration and all you're looking to do is replace the wiring in your car with something solid-state and simpler, the ISIS is a good choice. Just don't confuse it with a PDM.

Neel,

I know I'm not exactly comparing apples to apples here but the Isis power cell systems very cleaver and effective. In fact they have a touch pad that will integrate a ton of switch functions with full programability for on screen buttons. They have a robust product that is simple and very dynamic? Am I off base here? Have you seen it before? What do you think?

Nope, its just plug and plug for the M50, not the M52 or M54. However, we have done wire-in Vi-PEC V88's for the M52TU & M54 with excellent success; double-VANOS & e-throttle is 100% supported. The only issues with the later motors is the ECU connector is hard to get which makes a plug & play more challenging.
