Its been 3 years since we did our first E92 M3 Standalone System, which allow the cars
to be fully tuned including VANOS & drive by wire, while eliminating all of the heavy and restrictive stock electronic systems. We were the first in the world to do this – before Bosch Motorsports, before MOTEC, before anyone – and in its debut the car finished in the top 10.
We’ve sold quite a few systems since then, but to this day there are people who claim “it can’t be done” even after 1000’s of laps and race wins! For example, Tuner Motorsports, one of the biggest BMW specialists in the world, was told by another ECU supplier that you couldn’t use the stock throttle position sensors. We ended up doing a system with them last year. Dinan was told by another supplier that you couldn’t use the stock coils. I think the ones in the BMW Store car are the originals. Just last week someone posted on Bimmerforums that they couldn’t find a standalone that would work with these. All the while, this little BMW team from Vancouver, BC has been happily circulating and running beautifully. On the dyno, these cars are making 20-40hp more than the identical engines with stock ECU Reflashes. We must be doing something right!
For their 3rd attempt at Thunderhill, The BMW Store is running Apex Speed Technology signage on their car, and we’re really excited about being there with them. Alex, who worked on this project from the beginning, will be going to provide his expert engine support keeping tabs on thier Pectel SQ6 ECU, Pi DB-1 Data logger, Pi Omega Dash, Pi GPS Beacon and our custom harnessing.
